Conservation Easement

215.8 acres (95.09 acres marsh)

Funded by the Charleston County Greenbelt Program and the South Carolina Conservation Bank

EIOLT DOES NOT OWN THIS PROPERTY, NOR DO WE MANAGE IT, NOR DO WE CONTROL THE CATTLE ON THE PROPERTY.

If cattle have escaped the pasture, please notify the leasing cattle rancher:  Legare Warren, (843) 729-7510

Calves can find ways to squeeze under the fence along the highway. They generally don’t go far and return to the pasture on their own.

As the old adage goes, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Sand Creek Farm is adjacent to Russell Creek and Sand Creek. Conservation of this property keeps the vegetative buffers between creeks and potential sources of pollution intact, while providing scenic views from Highway 174. Habitats include saltmarsh, maritime forest and bottomland hardwood forests. Each habitat is home to a diverse array of native birds and mammals. The property’s size and location next to other conserved properties provides a large area of unfragmented wildlife habitat. It’s also the site of our annual oyster roast!
