Conservation Easement

87.78 acres (11.61 acres marsh)

Funded by the Charleston County Greenbelt Program

Once part of a historic Sea Island cotton plantation, this property boasts over 41 acres of statewide important soils. The land still functions as a working farm. Salt marsh habitat and wooded uplands provide food and shelter for diverse local wildlife, including a heron rookery. The property’s size and location next to other conserved properties provides a large area of unfragmented wildlife habitat. The Seaside Colored School, that was built in 1931 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, was eventually moved to this property.
