Conservation Easement

55.26 acres

Funded by the Charleston County Greenbelt Program

Once part of a Sea Island cotton plantation and now part of a working farm, this property boasts over 21.9 acres of statewide important soils. Most of the land has not been farmed for 100 years, allowing the growth of upland forests. Old growth forests were heavily logged, so secondary growth forests become increasingly important to wildlife and as buffers from storm winds. The property’s size and location next to other conserved properties provides a large area of unfragmented wildlife habitat.
