Fronting Scenic Highway 174, the Old Schoolhouse Preserve offers beautiful marsh views and a glimpse of the Mystery Tree to drivers on the way to the beach. Old ditches have transformed into ephemeral freshwater wetlands, providing breeding areas for several species of reptiles and amphibians. This property is adjacent to the site of the historic Seaside Colored School built in 1931 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
