Conservation Easement with Public Access

10 acres

Funded by the Charleston County Greenbelt Program

Edisto Island County Park is still under development and not yet publicly accessible

In a joint effort between the Edisto Island Open Land Trust and the Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission, this conservation easement was secured to improve wildlife habitat and limit development of the property. The property supports acres of woodland wildlife habitat as well as several permanent and temporary wetlands that are important habitats for amphibians, turtles, and Wood Ducks. These temporary wetlands are not protected by state or federal law, so local conservation efforts are crucial. The property is currently closed to the public but will eventually be open as a portion of the Edisto Island County Park.
